Julie’s Journey Updates

April 8th, 2013

As the efforts to raise funds to help Julie multiplied, we realized the amount of information to share was more than could reasonably be handled within the DFDLegacy website, so we built Julie her own website.

We’re proud to announce that
www.RockinForJulie.com
is now online!

Along with the site we’ve also set up an online store where you can order tickets for the benefit concert, Detroit Fire benefit T-shirts and raffle tickets.rockin t square with ladies

We’ve added more information about the May 18th event, as well as details on a new fundraiser: Mother’s Day Benefit Breakfast.

Visit RockinForJulie for all the latest!

Thank you for your continued support of Julie.

The May 18th  event has had a location change.  It will now be held at St. Andrew’s Hall in Detroit, MI.  More detail on why the venue has changed will be coming soon.  For now we’ll just say there are some exciting thing that will be happening that evening.  Mark your calendar now, you won’t want to miss this.

A new fundraising event has been added to the website.  On April 14th  Fast Pace Fitness will be sponsoring a bus trip to FireKeepers casino.  Proceeds will go to benefit Julie.  Pick up in the Detroit and Jackson area, the cost is $30, and you get $20 in FireKeepers Red Hot Rewards play, and $5 voucher toward food.  Registration is due by April 7th, so don’t delay.  Click here for details and registration forms.firekeepers2

Donations on the Give Forward page have topped $6,000.

Donations in exchange for Detroit Fire Department patches has hit the $300 mark.  So far they have been sent to locations throughout Michigan, Florida, and Colorado.

So many wonderful stories have accompanied donations made to Julie.  One gentleman who was assigned to Detroit Fire’s Engine 31 with Julie’s father in 1962 made a very nice donation.   His message stated that he just wants to help one of his (Tom’s) children.

Another donation came from a lady who sent an email saying that she is the Mother of a Firefighter.  Her son works for a department in Florida.  She let us know that her husband had just lost his job after 30 years with the same company (the company closed), but after reading about Julie she felt compelled to make a donation with their last paycheck.  She felt bad that they could not send more.

Being privileged to hearing the stories behind the donations has been heartwarming.  The are a testimate to both the brotherhood of firefighting and of mankind.

Just a few short weeks ago word started spreading about the need for Julie to travel to China for medical treatment and the fund raising efforts to make the trip possible.  Since then many wonderful people have rallied around Julie and Scott.

Donations on Give Forward have topped $5,000.  Many other donations have been given directly to Julie and Scott as well.  Bike and TV raffle tickets are selling, a new raffle for a Peter Max signed artwork is getting going, and events are being planned.  Thank you to everyone involved.

This week’s big news, Julie became a cover girl!  The Brooklyn Exponent did a front page article about Julie’s fight.894952_10200762498375247_1748232404_o
